Simple and tasty veggie burger with pea patties

These pea patties have been my favorite for years. They are very tasty, super cheap and easy to make. I always serve them on parties and when I have to make a lot of burgers, I almost always use this recipe. Try it, I hope you like it as much as I do! :) And when the patties do not want to stick together (it almost never happens but even the patties may have a bad day), then add some flour (almost any flour will do) or bread crumbs.

Pea patties:

  • 2-4 onions (chop and fry the onions until golden brown, add soy sauce to taste)
  • 250 g dried peas (I used yellow split peas)
  • vegetable stock powder or salt to taste
  • curry powder to taste
  • about 150 ml water
  • oil for frying

Soak the peas over night. Drain, rinse and pour into a bowl or in the food processor. Add fried onions, vegetable stock powder, curry powder and water (I used a lot of curry powder, about 4 tbsp). Taste the mixture and add some more stock powder, curry powder or soy sauce if you want. Crush the peas with food processor or hand blender until the mixture is really smooth and not really grainy anymore. It will be kinda wet but don't hesitate! :) Heat up some oil (I used plenty) on a cooking pan, form the patties and fry in hot oil until crispy on both sides. The patties are best on the same day, then tend to get dry after some time.

Burger sauce:

  • vegan mayonnaise
  • some quality ketchup
  • dried oregano
  • some salt and pepper
Mix all the ingredients.

Serve the burger with pea patties, sauce and your favorite fillings (I mostly like to add sliced onions and marinated cucumbers).
